Transitional dressing – the style we have to adapt for the in-between weather from the end of August until the cold sets in – isn’t easy. We are surrounded by the exciting new season collections of cosy knits, stunning coats and cool boots, and yet still wearing floral dresses, sandals and t-shirts. When the Autumn showers start falling and the evenings get chilly building a clever transitional wardrobe becomes particularly important. There are a few key items that you can invest in and wear now and later, relying on them to see you through the seasons in style.

THE LIGHT COAT

Light coats work just as well with a summer wardrobe as they do a winter one. They are versatile, classic pieces you’ll always go back to, so if you don’t already have one you love, invest. A classic style can instantly smarten up a simple jeans-and-a-t-shirt look and effortlessly complete a more elegant outfit. Add bright accessories when the sun is out, and on colder days, layer over knits and pair with your favourite trainers or boots.

ANKLE BOOTS

Chances are you already own a pair (or five) of ankle boots. If you are waiting for the chillier months to wear them… don’t! Pair them now with pretty summer dresses and easy breezy skirts to toughen them up or with your favourite suit for a cool, fashion-forward look. If you are going to invest in just one pair this season (personally, we find such restrictions difficult) go for western style cowboy boots – the style to go for Autumn/Winter 2018.

NEW SEASON SKIRTS

A new season skirt is the perfect pieces to invest in during the in-between season. Wear it now with bare legs and your favourite light tops and pair with thick tights, boots and a cosy knit when the weather becomes cooler and leaves start to crunch under your (ankle) boots.
